Mission trip to Copan - Day 2

Posted by Ashley Hoover

After we shared the Gospel on Friday we visted as many of the houses as we could inviting the adults to come listen on Saturday and seeing what kind of needs they had. When we returned to where we were staying we sorted through the gynormous pile of clothes we had brought with us so that each family would have something along with some toys for the children. After a nice breakfast we loaded up the car once again with all the sacks to give away and made out for the village.

Just a few of the clothes

When we reached the point where we left the truck we had to get all those sacks the rest of the way up mountain. Kinda like this...
(I took notes for next time. ;))
We played more games with the children and this day there were a ton! We estimated at least 150 children came out and I think almost all the mothers as well. We divided into groups for more personal teaching.
The red group singing a song.
My blue group getting ready to play a game.

We shared the Wordless Book with our group. There was a lot I felt that needed explained for them to truly understand. More than what we could do in two days but God's Word does not return empty and a seed was planted. As a side note, one of the things the Mayan believe is that people come from corn.

We shared the missions story of Madugu since our focus was the Wordless Book.

Afterwards we distributed mini Wordless Books that some people from a church I visited in the US made for me.

Explaining the WB with the adults.
We also gave out the clothes and toys to each family. They were receptive and grateful though we came away impacted by the need and hoping to make another trip in the future.

I will write another post about all the non-ministry things we did in the free time we had so there are a few more pics coming! :)

It really looks pretty there. All the mountains and stuff. :) I hope you're enjoying everything immensely and growing a lot.

We miss you up here!
