Courageous

I was able to attend a pre-screening for the movie Courageous coming out September 30. From the makers of Facing the Giants and Fireproof this new film takes on the role of the father and challenges them to be leaders first at home. I really enjoyed it, I think it's the most humorous of thier movies so far and yet it also as a lot of action packed suspense as you see what police officers deal with every day. From the Courageous website:
Four men, one calling: To serve and protect.
"As law enforcement officers, Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, and their partners are confident and focused. They willingly stand up to the worst the world can offer. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood.
While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. But they're quickly discovering that their standard is missing the mark.
They know that God desires to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, but their children are beginning to drift further and further away from them. Will they be able to find a way to serve and protect those that are most dear to them?
When tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a newfound urgency help these dads draw closer to God ... and to their children?...
Moviegoers will again find themselves crying, laughing, and cheering—sometimes simultaneously—as they are inspired by everyday heroes who long to be the kinds of dads that make a lifelong impact on their children.
Protecting the streets is second nature to these law enforcement officers. Raising their children? That will take courage.
Courageous ... honor begins at home."
I don't have much more to add except that I think every dad should see this movie or those who will one day be a father. Many of the kids I've taught this past year have little to no father figure in thier lives and I really pray this moive will help to change that for the future generation. So, go see the movie when it comes out and tell others to see it too!

Courageous looks so good. I can't wait to see it!
LUCCCKKKKYYYYYY!!!!!! how in the world did you get a chance to see a pre-screening??
I have a case of the green-eyed monster, I do confess. ;) But SO glad you got to see it since it may be awhile before you could get it in Honduras!
I totally am looking forward to seeing it in September!! If God uses this movie like He did Fireproof then some amazing things are going to happen through Courageous!
Tim, it's one of the perks of having an office with 40+ other ministries. We get events like this sometimes. :)
Just this January I saw part of Fireproof and then all of Facing the Giants. I hadn't seen them before and had low expectations becuase of other (hopefully not sounding too critical) "lame" "Christian" films. These movies blew me away with their impactful simplicity that people can relate to on a practical, personal level. I was hoping they weren't going to get ahead of themselves and make the mistake of confirming my initial expectations of cheesy films with "Courageous" (I mean, every other show on TV is about law enforcement and kinda overdone), but with your review, I'm excited for another great film!
Next they need to partner with "Do Hard Things" to challange "Teenagers", who should actually be adults, to rise above the expectations society places on them. Society could use the message too and respond by raising the bar and giving these "adults" something higher to aim for.
I wonder what other ideas people have???
I know what you mean Ben about Christian movies. I have really enjoyed these by Sherwood and find them a pleasent deviation from the norm.
I think Fireproof is still my favorite but maybe because that movie applies to so many people. Couragous is obviously focused on men and thier role as a father. So while everyone can still take things away from it, it is more a guy film in the application aspect. And I think they did very well with the cop theme. It will be rated PG-13 because of guns and a shootout but I was happy there isn't any blood and all that to go along with it. (Sis, you'll like that too:)) Also I think the first of thier films where everything isn't exactly a happy ending.
I agree a film challenging youth would be amazing! Something desperately needed today.
Yes, I do like that, Sis. ;)
I would really like to see them do film focusing on the sancity of life. It's another huge issue in society today and while I know it's talked/debated/argued over so much already, with the impact Sherwood's films are having, I really think that a well done film by them would open eyes.
But I also agree that youth need a serious challenge today! If you expect nothing from them, nothing is what you'll get. But if you raise the standard and give them expectations to aim for, they tend to rise to that challenge. The problem is that our society today doesn't expect anything from them.
cool! Hope it makes it to Mexico---otherwise I will have to see it when it comes on video. I really appreciate Sherwood's movies.
